Judo Ryu WA is a sports club located in Perth, Western Australia. Established in 2004 by head coach Robert, who has a wealth of Judo knowledge gained from training and coaching in The Netherlands, the club aims to teach Judo in an active, fun, and safe manner.
The club offers classes for both junior and senior judokas. Junior classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00pm to 6:00pm during the school term, while senior classes take place on Tuesdays from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. The term for 2023 runs for 10 weeks, starting from Tuesday, October 10th and ending on Thursday, December 14th.
Judo Ryu WA believes in the principle of “Judo is Duo,” which emphasises the importance of respecting and caring for each other during practise. Judokas are taught a variety of techniques and learn how to fall safely. Judo is suitable for all ages (5+) and has been an Olympic sport since 1964. The benefits of practising Judo include improved coordination, increased mobility and flexibility, weight loss management, and the development of speed, strength, agility, and power.
It also helps to improve self-confidence.
The club offers a free trial class for those who want to give Judo a try. Interested individuals can register on the club's website for a complimentary, no-obligations trial class.
In addition to regular training, Judo Ryu WA also organises and participates in various events and tournaments. They have been invited by Santos Judo Academy to take part in their beginners tournament on Sunday, October 15th, 2023, in Middle Swan. The club encourages all its members to register for this great initiative. Another upcoming event is the SouthWest Judo Championships, which will be held on Sunday, October 29th, 2023, to celebrate World Judo Day.
This event welcomes judokas of all skill levels and is open to the entire WA judo community.
Judo Ryu WA also offers weekly in-school judo sessions, where students learn standing and ground self-defence techniques, along with simple Japanese terminology, while being physically active. Schools can register for a complimentary quote and grant options with no obligations.
The club's website features a gallery of photos showcasing their activities and events over the years. The coaches at Judo Ryu WA, including head coach Robert, have decades of dedicated Judo practise and bring a wealth of knowledge to the club. Robert is a 4th Dan Black Belt and an International Referee with the International Judo Federation (IJF).
Overall, Judo Ryu WA provides a welcoming and supportive environment for individuals of all ages to learn and practise Judo. Through active and fun training sessions, members can improve their physical fitness, coordination, and self-confidence.
