That build upon the foundation they have learned. This progression continues until they have learned all the necessary techniques for their black belt ranking.
In addition to learning individual techniques, our students also learn patterns, or forms. Patterns are a series of pre-arranged movements that simulate a fight against multiple opponents. They help to develop balance, control, coordination, and memory. Patterns also incorporate a combination of kicks, strikes, and blocks, allowing students to practise various techniques in a fluid and structured manner.
SPARRING Sparring is a key component of our curriculum and is introduced to our students within the first month of training. It is a controlled and supervised activity where students practise their techniques in a simulated combat situation. Our sparring style emphasises control and strategy rather than brute force, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
Sparring not only helps to improve reflexes, speed, and accuracy, but it also teaches our students crucial skills such as distance management, timing, footwork, and the ability to read an opponent's intentions. It provides valuable real-world application and helps to build confidence in self-defence situations.
BOARD BREAKING AND PAD WORK To further develop power, focus, and precision, our students also learn board breaking and pad work. Board breaking involves breaking wooden boards with various strikes and kicks, showcasing the strength and control they have developed. Pad work, on the other hand, involves striking focus pads held by a partner, allowing students to practise their techniques with a moving target. These activities not only help to build physical strength and power, but also mental resilience and concentration.
FITNESS AND STRENGTH Fitness and strength development are key components of our curriculum. Through warm-up exercises, cardio drills, strength training, and conditioning exercises, our students improve their overall fitness levels, stamina, and endurance. Regular training sessions help to increase muscle tone, improve flexibility, and enhance cardiovascular health. These physical improvements not only benefit their martial arts practise but also promote overall health and well-being.
TOURNAMENTS AND TRAINING CAMPS To add an extra dimension to the development of our students' skills and understanding, we incorporate tournaments and training camps into our training programme. Tournaments provide an opportunity for our students to compete and showcase their skills in a friendly and supportive environment. They also serve as a goal-setting mechanism and help to foster camaraderie and sportsmanship among our members. Training camps, on the other hand, bring together students from different clubs and instructors to learn advanced skills, techniques, and concepts.
They offer a unique learning experience and provide students with the chance to broaden their understanding of Tae Kwon Do beyond their regular training sessions.
As a modern martial art, our curriculum is constantly evolving and expanding. We strive to provide an open and well-rounded martial arts experience, constantly challenging our students to reach their full potential.
