Founded in 2003, Initial Drift Australia (IDA) is the first car club in Australia to be sanctioned by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sports (CAMS) under the new “Drifting” category. Located in Goulburn Mulwaree Council, IDA is dedicated to promoting and organising drifting events at closed circuits, ensuring the safety of all participants. They have been involved in various events, ranging from beginner drift schools to full 32-car competition events at renowned tracks such as Oran Park, Eastern Creek, and Wakefield Park.
One unique aspect of IDA is that it is not just a club run by administrators; it has a dedicated team of experienced drifters who ensure that every event is enjoyable for both beginners and seasoned drifters. The club is incorporated as a not-for-profit organisation, meaning that any profits raised from their track days go back into the club, helping them improve future events. By purchasing drift-related apparel from their shop, individuals can support IDA and contribute to the funding of future track days.
On the executive side, Pete, the President of IDA, has been involved with the club from its inception and played a crucial role in getting drifting recognised as an official motorsport in Australia. He oversees the functions and direction of the club, keeping it focused on what is important for the drift community. Erin, the secretary, has been with IDA since 2012 and is passionate about drifting. She continually strives to improve her driving skills and loves being at the track.
Adam, the technical master, is responsible for providing valuable advice on race and drift car building and preparation. His extensive experience ensures the safety of participants during IDA events.
While IDA does not provide contact numbers as council members work full-time jobs, they are committed to responding to emails as soon as possible. However, due to their work commitments, there might be a slight delay in their response.
For those interested in supporting the club or simply looking to show their love for drifting, IDA offers a range of drift-related apparel for purchase in their online shop. The profits from these sales are directed towards hosting future track days. By purchasing from their shop, individuals can not only look good but also contribute to the development of this pioneering organisation in the sport of drifting.
