Illawarra Pistol Club Inc. (IPC) is a sports club located in Wollongong, Australia. Established in 2014, the club provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for pistol shooting enthusiasts of all ages and genders.
The club is currently operating out of the Sydney International Shooting Centre (SISC) since October 2015, after the closure of their previous facilities in Bass Point, Shell Cove, NSW for relocation purposes.
IPC offers a range of disciplines for its members to participate in, following the guidelines of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). These disciplines involve shooting with pistols in various positions and using different calibres.
One of the ISSF disciplines available at the club is the 25M Pistol match, formerly known as Sport Pistol. While internationally, this match is predominantly shot by women and juniors, at IPC, men, women, and juniors are all welcome to compete. Shooters use . 22" calibre pistols and complete a precision fire stage and a rapid fire stage, each consisting of 30 shots.
Centrefire matches at IPC follow the same course of fire as the 25M Pistol match but allow for the use of centrefire pistols with a calibre of . 30"-. 38". In Australia and at the club, women are encouraged to participate in these matches as well.
Rapid Fire matches are another discipline offered, where shooters complete 60 shots divided into 12 series of 5 shots. Time limits of 4, 6, or 8 seconds are given for each series, depending on the stage being shot.
The Standard Pistol match at IPC consists of 60 shots divided into 12 stages, with the duration of each stage varying. Shooters must complete the stages within designated time limits ranging from 10 seconds to 150 seconds.
The 50M Pistol match, formerly known as Free Pistol, involves shooting single-shot . 22 calibre pistols at a distance of 50m. There are 60 shots fired in this match.
In addition to the ISSF disciplines, IPC also offers service disciplines. The Service Pistol match requires shooters to use 9 mm semi-automatics or . 38/. 357 revolvers, starting with their pistol holstered at the beginning of each series.
The match includes firing 90 shots from distances of 7 to 50 yards, in prone, kneeling, and standing positions.
Service Pistol Unrestricted has the same course of fire as the Service Pistol match, but allows for calibres between . 32-. 38, and holsters are not used at the start of each series.
The WA1500 match at IPC is shot with . 35-. 38 calibre semi-automatics or . 38 calibre revolvers.
Shooters complete 150 shots from distances of 7 to 50 yards and fire from prone, kneeling, and standing positions. They start each series with their pistol holstered.
If you're interested in participating in black powder matches, IPC permits the use of . 36-. 68 calibre black powder pistols. The club offers International Slow-fire 25m and 50m matches as part of their black powder discipline.
