Grampians Aikido – Martial Arts Ballarat is a dedicated sports club located in Ararat Rural City, offering classes in Iwama Ryu Aikido – the Art of Peace. The club strives to create a learning environment that fosters self-discipline, personal responsibility, respect for others, and effective leadership. They encourage students to challenge themselves to reach their full potential and make a positive impact on others.
Classes at Grampians Aikido are taught by qualified and experienced instructors in a safe and supervised environment. The club offers classes in Ararat, Horsham, and Ballarat (by appointment). They also provide distance training options for those who are unable to attend in-person classes.
Grampians Aikido takes pride in their strong lineage and connexion to the traditions of Iwama Ryu Aikido. The founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, synthesised this martial art in the 20th century, but it has a rich heritage of over 700 years. Michael Field Soke, a fifth-degree black belt and the sole representative of Iwama Ryu Aikido in Australia, trained for 23 years under Morihiro Saito Sensei. Saito Sensei was a direct student of Morihei Ueshiba and was regarded as one of his top disciples.
The club has a strong focus on guiding values for their students, which include harmony, mutual benefit, do no harm, and continual learning. Grampians Aikido believes in the importance of self-defence skills and aims to equip their students with the techniques and mindset necessary to protect themselves and others.
