Gerringong Surf Life Saving Club, located at the stunning Werri Beach in South Coast NSW, is a tight-knit and welcoming sports club dedicated to protecting swimmers and surfers in the area. Founded in 1976, the club has a proud history in competition, especially in surf boat rowing.
During the surf season, which runs from September to April, our dedicated members volunteer over 10,000 hours to patrol Werri Beach on weekends and public holidays. Thanks to our preventative measures, we are able to prevent numerous potential rescues, making the beach a safer place for everyone.
With a growing membership, particularly in our active Nippers division, Gerringong SLSC is committed to training the next generation of lifesavers. Our Nippers programme, running from October to March each year, teaches children aged from under 6s to under 13s important skills in ocean safety, including surf safety, beach flags, ocean swim, and board paddling.
Membership at Gerringong Surf Club is open to everyone. Parents can join as Associate members, and have the opportunity to become Age Managers for the Nippers. Individuals can also train to complete a Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate, which enables them to join a patrol and contribute to the safety of our beaches.
Aside from our lifesaving efforts, Gerringong SLSC also offers a vibrant social scene. Our clubhouse, boasting one of the best views on the coast, is a popular gathering spot for members, the local community, and visitors alike. Throughout the year, we host various social events, providing an opportunity to catch up and enjoy a drink while overlooking the beach.
One of the highlights of our calendar is the Captain Christie Ocean Swim, an annual event attracting swimmers of the highest calibre. Known as the most challenging ocean swim of them all, it takes place on the first Sunday of the New Year. Each competitor receives a bottle of whisky and earns the status of Legend.
If you're interested in joining Gerringong Surf Club, whether it's to become a patrolling member, a Nipper, or to simply enjoy our social events, we welcome you with open arms. Our club is an important part of the Gerringong community, and we are dedicated to keeping our beautiful beaches safe for everyone to enjoy.
