The Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) is a sports club located in Geraldton, Western Australia. The club aims to promote a healthy lifestyle through participation in basketball, catering to all age groups within the community. GABA provides opportunities for players, referees, and coaches to develop their skills and progress to the next level.
GABA operates a high standard junior and senior competition and is also home to the Buccaneers State Basketball League team. In addition, the club runs the Aussie Hoops programme, Midnight Basketball Programme for indigenous youth, and the Wheelchair Competition, all of which benefit the needs of the community.
The history of basketball in Western Australia dates back to 1911, and the original Western Australian Basketball Association was formed in Perth in 1946. Organised men's basketball in Geraldton began in 1950 with the support of Catholic Priests, Father Michael Moffat and Monsignor O'Conner. Their vision for basketball in Geraldton led to the establishment of the Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association.
The GABA office is located at Activewest Stadium on Eighth Street in Wonthella. The office is open on Mondays from 8:30am to 3:30pm, Wednesdays from 8:30am to 5:00pm, and Fridays from 8:30am to 4:00pm. The club can be contacted via email at admin@geraldtonbasketballassociation. com.
