The Galston Aquatic and Leisure Centre (GALC) is a popular sports club located in Galston Park, in The Council of the Shire of Hornsby. Currently undergoing facility upgrades, GALC remains closed to the public but is set to reopen later this year in time for summer.
The facility has been undergoing extensive renovations, including the completion of indoor amenities and the installation of a new roof, to give the centre a fresh new look. However, there have been some delays due to unforeseen stoppages from rain, labour shortages, and delays in the delivery of building materials caused by COVID-19 related supply issues. Despite these setbacks, the project team is committed to ensuring a safety-first working environment for both contractors and Council staff, adhering to the strict Work Health and Safety Act.
Upon reopening, GALC will offer a range of features and amenities for visitors to enjoy. The centre boasts a 25-metre six-lane indoor pool heated to a comfortable 28 °C, ideal for swimming laps or water exercises. Additionally, there is a purpose-built learn-to-swim pool heated to 32 °C to accommodate swimming lessons for all ages and skill levels. For those looking to maintain their fitness, GALC has a fully equipped gymnasium with state-of-the-art equipment.
The centre is surrounded by a picnic area and playground, making it an ideal spot for families to spend a day outdoors. The onsite kiosk offers swimwear and accessories if you forget to bring your own. Learn-to-swim classes are available year-round, along with squad training, catering to swimmers of all levels. The Galston Swim Club meets at GALC, providing a supportive community for swimmers to train and compete.
Aqua Fitness classes and AUSSI Masters swimming sessions are also available for those looking for alternative exercise options.
GALC offers a range of admission prices, including discounted rates for students, children, and pensioners. Season passes and 20-ticket admissions are also available for those who plan to visit the centre frequently. The facility is wheelchair accessible with designated facilities for people with disabilities, and there is ample parking available for visitors.
