During the 2001 season an invitation to join the strong Sunshine Coast and District competition was given. After agonising debate and robust commentary the two great clubs, Maryborough Mud Crabs and The Hervey Bay Fighting Whiting amalgamated and became the Fraser Coast Mariners Rugby Union Football Club.
The Sunny Coast competition hosts 8 teams; Caboolture, Caloundra, Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast University, Nambour, Noosa, Gympie and Fraser Coast Mariners.
The club won the inaugural 2009 Bundaberg Spring Cup emphasising the enormous increase in skilled quality rugby that is afforded by playing in the Sunshine Coast competition.
