About

Fire Phoenix Martial Arts is a Hapkido school located in Corrimal, just north of Wollongong, NSW. They offer classes for fitness, fun, and to deliver the powerful benefits of training such as self-control, discipline, and respect.

At Fire Phoenix, their programmes are based on the Korean Art Hapkido which can be translated to mean ‘The Way of Coordinated Power'. The art is centred around three principles – non-resistance to force, circular motion, and flowing like water. This unique art incorporates the punches and hand strikes of styles such as Karate, the dynamic kicks of Taekwondo, and the joint locks and self-defence techniques of styles such as Aikido.

The age-specific group divisions at Fire Phoenix maximise learning opportunities for students. Classes range from preschoolers of 3 years and older to adults, including parents and grandparents. The kids martial arts classes are not just about fitness but also focus on developing skills that help children reach their true potential in all areas of their lives. The preschool programme, developed by Sensei Nicole Gibson, an Early Childhood educator, is particularly designed for the developmental needs of young children.

The school-age programmes have been modified and targeted to suit the specific age group requires by Sah Bu Nim Anneke Wright, who has 20 years of martial arts experience. The adult programmes aim to teach real martial arts effectively.

In addition to Hapkido, Fire Phoenix offers a Tai Chi programme that can be done alongside or as a stand-alone programme. It is a great complement to their Hapkido classes. The club also offers family-friendly classes, allowing the whole family to train at the same time, promoting bonding experiences.

Fire Phoenix Martial Arts has a flexible class schedule, offering classes six days a week for all age groups, with options available in the daytime, afternoon, and evening. They also provide the choice of studying in other programmes such as Weaponry, Tai Chi, and Extreme Martial Arts, allowing students to focus on the aspect of the art that interests them the most while developing well-rounded martial arts skills.

In addition to regular classes, Fire Phoenix offers school holiday programmes during each school break. These programmes vary in activities, ranging from games and craft to learning extreme martial arts or extreme weapons.

Flexible enrolment options are available, with once-per-week and unlimited training options to suit individual preferences. Students are even allowed to vary their attendance pattern at any time. Fees are all-inclusive, with no surprises, and include everything needed to be part of the club, including a uniform when initially joining.

Fire Phoenix Martial Arts also offers the opportunity for students to join their Tournament Team. The team consists of beginners preparing for their first tournament to Australian Champions. Everyone is welcome to try out and be part of the team.
