With a rich history dating back to the turn of the last century, Easts Cycling Club has been an integral part of the social and sporting fraternity of the area. The club proudly wears the red, white, and blue colours that represent the Eastern Suburbs region.
One of the greatest advantages of being a member of Easts Cycling Club is the opportunity to train and socialise in Sydney's magnificent Centennial Park. Known for its cycling-friendly environment, Centennial Park provides cyclists with a picturesque and ideal setting for training sessions and recreational rides. Additionally, Easts Cycling Club is a proud member of AusCycling, the national governing body for cycling in Australia.
Easts Cycling Club offers race and ride memberships for cyclists of all ages and abilities. Whether you're a seasoned racer or a recreational rider, there is a membership option that suits your goals and preferences. As a member, you'll have access to a vibrant social community that promotes health, wellness, and overall well-being.
The club's primary racing event, known as Tuesday Night Heffron, is conducted at Heffron Park in Maroubra during the daylight saving months from October to March. Now in its 36th year, Tuesday Night Heffron has grown into Sydney's most prestigious criterium event. The race features a unique handicap format where A grade riders start last and have 15 laps to catch up to the B and C grade riders. This form of racing offers intense competition, as each grade works cohesively to stay ahead of the chasing grades.
Regular race information can be found on the Tuesday Night Racing Facebook page, and guidelines are available for download.
For those looking for an alternative to outdoor racing or when the weather doesn't permit, Easts Cycling Club hosts a Zwift Handicap throughout the year. This virtual race on Zwift, known as “Tuesday Night Heffron by Easts Cycling,” replicates the intensity and challenge of the real Tuesday Night Heffron race. It provides a great opportunity to test your skills and fitness even when you can't ride outdoors.
Easts Cycling Club also organises regular club rides for its members. These rides cater to riders of all levels and depart from Albion Cycles in Waverley. Wednesday mornings feature a 32 km moderate-paced ride to La Perouse and return via Maroubra Beach. Friday mornings offer another moderate-paced 32 km ride, and Saturday mornings provide a medium-paced ride with car support to Sutherland and return (55 km) or an option to continue to Waterfall and return (100 km).
These club rides are accompanied by car support to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for participants.
The club is committed to nurturing the next generation of cyclists through its junior programme. Held every Sunday at Heffron Park, the programme is open to children aged 6 to 15 years. The focus of the Junior Programme is on developing bike handling skills, fitness, and having fun. If you're interested in enrolling your child in the programme, you can contact the club for further details.
Membership with Easts Cycling Club offers a range of benefits. In addition to providing a safe and social environment, membership includes full insurance cover while training or racing. The club is inclusive and welcomes men, women, and children of all ages. Members have the opportunity to participate in any race on the club's racing calendar and also enjoy access to club training rides and coaching advice.
