Dunbar Rovers Football Club is a renowned sports club located in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, Australia. Established in 1991 with only one team, Dunbar Rovers has since grown to become a leading club in the Eastern Suburbs Football Association (ESFA), boasting over 860 registered members. The club welcomes male and female players of all ages, ranging from 5 to 65+ years old, and competes in both Junior and Senior competitions.
At the highest level of the ESFA, Dunbar Rovers holds a unique position as one of the most successful clubs. The Men's Championship team has impressively claimed the ESFA Championship (premier League) title seven times since its founding in 2007 and has also emerged victorious in the Grand Final on five occasions. Similarly, the club has consistently excelled in ESFA's Women's competition, clinching the league title 12 times and winning the Grand Final six times, all since 2004. Furthermore, both the Men and Women sides have achieved the esteemed NSW Champion of Champions title twice, with the Men in 2008 and 2014, and the Women in 2016 and 2018.
The club's success extends beyond the top divisions, as they field two Over35 teams and two Over45 teams, with the GoD's (Gentlemen of Dunbar) playing in the Over45 competition. The Over35 Championship team has impressively won the league seven times since 2010 and secured the NSW Champion of Champions title in 2018. Overall, Dunbar Rovers' Senior record includes an impressive 55 Club Grand Final appearances, 35 Club Grand Final wins, and 35 Club Minor topships. The team is easily recognisable on the field with their trademark pink collar, symbolising good sportsmanship and behaviour.
In 2008, Dunbar Rovers expanded its involvement in junior football through a partnership with the Football Project of Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF), sponsoring two teams. Since then, the club has grown to have over 17 teams participating in ESFA local junior competitions, with the first junior team registered in 2013. Local boys and girls have various options to engage in football, including a weekend hub for the youngest members aged 5 to 7, Gala Day football experiences, team participation, joining one of the NPL pathway development squads, or enrolling in the After School programme.
In 2014, following the Senior Men's success in the Club's second NSW Champion of Champions title, Dunbar Rovers was invited to compete in the Football New South Wales (FNSW) State League competition. Consequently, the club formed a new division to oversee the operations of its teams competing in the State League. In their inaugural year, the club triumphed in the competition and currently plays in NPL3, with their Youth teams participating in NPL2.
Dunbar Rovers Football Club acknowledges that these achievements would not have been possible without the support of their sponsors, coaches, former members, team managers, and countless volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to advance the club's vision. The club expresses its gratitude to all those who have contributed.
