Dickson Aquatic Centre, located in Canberra, is a popular sports club that provides a range of aquatic activities for its members. Under new management, the facility prides itself on being a genuine community asset and aims to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
The transformation of Dickson Pool over the past 27 years has been remarkable. From being considered the “ugly duckling” of pools in 1996, the facility has evolved into an outdoor oasis in the Inner North, complete with adorable ducklings. The new operators are grateful for the hard work and dedication of the previous staff who have been with the facility for over a decade and have continued to progress in their careers.
The pool community has been an integral part of Dickson Aquatic Centre, and the operators express their gratitude for the Lap Legends who faithfully arrive at 6am, the families who enjoy BBQs and swims in the evenings, the kids who improve their swimming skills through lessons, and the excitement of school swimming carnivals. The loss of Christine Graham, a beloved figure in the community, is acknowledged, and her dedication to the staff, customers, and the pool itself is recognised and deeply appreciated.
Moving forward, the new operators hope to maintain the same level of care and passion for the facility, its staff, and the community as the previous owners did. They understand that constant investment, care, and attention are essential to preserving the grounds, the water, and the overall facility. They also rely on the custodianship of the community to ensure the continued success and maintenance of Dickson Pool.
As the previous owners bid farewell to the industry, they express their gratitude for the opportunity to be part of such a special place. They acknowledge that it will take time to remove the memories of Dickson Aquatic Centre from their minds and wish everyone a wonderful summer holiday.
