Come and visit Darwin Bowls and Social Club, a historic sports club established in 1959. Located in beautiful Fannie Bay, just down the road from the Museum and Art Gallery, the club welcomes members, visitors, and guests alike.
At Darwin Bowls and Social Club, you can enjoy a relaxing time with friends and family in one of Darwin's iconic locations. Whether it's a cold beer after work or on the weekends, hosting a function for work mates or loved ones, or trying your hand at lawn bowls, this club has something for everyone.
The club recently opened the NANO Alfresco Diner, a unique dining experience under the stars on the club's lawn overlooking the greens and bushland. The NANO Alfresco Diner is open five nights a week, from Wednesday to Sunday, from 5. 00 pm to 8. 00 pm.
Over the years, the club has undergone significant changes. Originally, the bowling surface was made of shredded rubber. However, following the devastation of Cyclone Tracy on Christmas Eve in 1974, the clubhouse and greens were rebuilt and transformed. Grass greens were installed, and the club maintained two turf greens.
In 2013, the club authorised a feasibility study to investigate the benefits of converting the greens to synthetic grass and constructing a cover over one of the greens. The project received funding from the Northern Territory Government, and work began in October 2015.
The front green was converted to synthetic grass and opened in November 2015, while construction on the cover over the Rex Eddy Green (back green) began in April 2016. A second synthetic green was also installed, and the project was completed in June 2016. In September of the same year, a sealed car park was constructed to add convenience for visitors.
For those interested in joining the club, detailed information about the corporate structure, sponsors, and contact details can be found on the club's website. The club also hosts various functions, events, and competitions throughout the year. Members Elisa Rigoni and Daniel Baker, for example, recently represented the club in the Australian Champion of Champions competition in Western Australia.
Whether you're interested in social bowls, competition bowls, or simply being a part of the community, Darwin Bowls and Social Club offers a welcoming environment and a range of activities for all.
