Dance Max is a renowned dance school located on Sydney's leafy Upper North Shore. With classes offered at three locations, Beecroft, Turramurra, and Wahroonga, Dance Max provides quality tuition in various dance styles including classical ballet, jazz/hip hop, boys-only hip hop, and contemporary.
Established in 1967, Dance Max has been committed to equipping its students with polished performance skills, solid technique, and a lifelong love of dance. The school prides itself on creating safe and positive class environments where students of all shapes, ages, and abilities are welcome. Choreography and costuming are adapted to ensure that all dancers feel comfortable and included.
Dance Max is an approved provider for both the Active Kids and Creative Kids programme, allowing parents and guardians to avail of the subsidies provided by these initiatives. This further enhances accessibility and affordability for families.
One of Dance Max's core offerings is its classical ballet programme, which follows the Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD) syllabus. The ballet teachers at Dance Max are highly experienced and qualified RAD instructors who were trained in the syllabus themselves as young dancers. Students are provided with a positive learning environment that focuses on progress and enjoyment in their ballet training.
For students in Grade Two and above, Dance Max recommends attending two ballet lessons per week to enhance their knowledge of the syllabus and derive greater satisfaction and enjoyment from their ballet practise. Classical ballet at Dance Max is ideal for building a strong dance technique that can form the foundation for any style of dance a student may want to pursue in the future.
Dance Max prioritises the safety of its students. The Director, Ann-Marie Callahan, and Senior Classical Teacher, Juliana Elliott, have completed the RAD Teachers Certificate, which includes modules on anatomy from the University of Surrey. They are also qualified Pilates instructors and can identify any structural or muscular weaknesses in students, ensuring that their dance training is safe, beneficial, and injury-free.
In terms of assessments and examinations, Dance Max offers options for students to progress through the RAD Syllabus based on their goals and preferences. For students who primarily want to enjoy dancing and build technique, assessments are available, where each student qualifies for a certificate of completion. For those looking for higher levels of performance and a graded result, examinations are offered. Examination students are required to attend two or more ballet lessons per week, while assessment students can attend one lesson per week.
These assessments and examinations are optional, allowing students to choose the path that suits them best.
At Dance Max, dancers are equipped with the skills, technique, and love for dance that will stay with them for a lifetime. With a commitment to inclusivity, professionalism, and fostering a positive learning environment, Dance Max is the ideal sports club for anyone interested in dance, from children to adults.
