About

“Patricks Hurling Club” or Cumman Baire Craobh Phádraig, was founded in 2004 to establish a bigger and better competition in New South Wales and to ensure that all available hurlers in the area were given a chance to play. It was decided to give the club a name that would ensure a strong identity with Ireland and Sydney. The first Catholic Church to be built in Sydney also built by Irishmen is St Patricks in the Sydney CBD therefore creating a link with Sydney. The word Craobh means branch, and it was used in the early 20th century to describe local movements that were established to encourage and promote Irish language, sport, music, and literature.

We expect the club to follow the same traditions of the branches by encouraging not only hurling but the promotion of all aspects of Irish culture whilst also recognising the importance of Sydney & Australia in our development.

The club was founded by a group of Gaels living in Sydney dedicated to this end and in the spirit of Sydneys multicultural society the founding men and women of the club hail from a diverse set of counties in Ireland which are Wexford, Kilkenny, Sligo, Wicklow, Westmeath, Cavan and Dublin.

Fast-forward to 2018 we now have three competitive codes; Hurling, Camogie and Ladies Gaelic Football. We have players from every corner of the county.

We have become a force to be reckoned with here in Sydney showing serious progress. The aim is to to continue on this path of success.

We welcome new members all year round just give us a shout!
