The camaraderie of the cycling community. The Collie Cycle Club strives to promote the heritage of the sport while continuously developing and advancing cycling in Collie and the surrounding South West region.
The club has a rich history dating back over 100 years and is known for its iconic events, such as the Collie to Donnybrook and Return Cycling Classic and the Tom Lowry Memorial cycle race. These races have attracted past and current national champions, making the Collie Cycle Club a hub for competitive cycling. However, the club also welcomes riders of all categories and abilities, promoting a healthy and inclusive cycling community.
One of the main highlights of the Collie Cycle Club is its regular social rides. Every Saturday morning, a social road ride for all categories takes place, starting from Crank'n Cycles at 7am. All new riders are encouraged to join in, and the ride concludes with a coffee at Macca's, providing an opportunity for riders to socialise and connect with fellow cyclists. Additionally, group mountain bike rides take place on Wednesday evenings, with other rides organised as per the club's Facebook page.
The Collie Cycle Club's mission is to develop and advance the sport of cycling at all levels, promoting positive attitudes and a healthy lifestyle through family and community involvement. The club is committed to maintaining a safe environment for its members, facilitating a love for cycling as a recreational and competitive activity.
The club also hosts several upcoming events, including the 80th MEU Tom Lowry Memorial on Saturday, April 29th, 2023. This race is a graded handicap comprising A, B, C & D grades over a 100 km course. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall, as well as the fastest male and female riders in each grade. Online registration for the event is available on the club's website.
Another notable event organised by the Collie Cycle Club is the 98th Collie to Donnybrook & Return Cycling Classic, taking place on Saturday, August 19th, 2023. This historic race, which began in 1925, is the only remaining handicap event in Western Australia. It attracts riders from all over with its challenging 104 km course through hilly terrain, offering a rewarding experience for participants of all levels. The event also includes a 56 km support race, participation rides, and a mountain bike event.
