Cobram Barooga Equestrian Club (CBEC) is a well-established sports club located in the Berrigan Shire Council area. Founded in March 1992, CBEC is affiliated with the Horse Riding Clubs Association of Victoria (HRCAV) and offers opportunities for both senior and junior riders interested in various equestrian disciplines.
The club's main objective is to provide quality instruction and training to enhance the skills of both riders and horses. CBEC offers instruction in Dressage, Showjumping, Eventing, and Showing disciplines, ensuring a well-rounded experience for its members. The club aims to create a sense of camaraderie and fellowship among individuals passionate about equestrian sports, while also emphasising the importance of having fun and enjoyment.
CBEC hosts five official competitions each year, including the Official Dressage Championships and Official Showjumping Jackpot, typically held over two days in April. Additionally, the club organises an Official Show Ring event at the Cobram Show in October. These competitions provide members with valuable opportunities to showcase their skills and represent the club at various HRCAV events and other equestrian competitions.
The club's facilities are located at the Barooga Recreational Reserve on Burkinshaw Street in Barooga. The grounds feature a full-size sand arena, a fully enclosed round yard, holding horse yards, a stallion yard, jumps, an equipment shed, and club rooms equipped with a kitchen, change rooms, showers, and toilets. These well-maintained facilities provide a safe and comfortable environment for members to train and participate in club activities.
CBEC regularly schedules training days, usually taking place on the fourth Sunday of each month. However, the dates may vary depending on the events calendar, and any changes will be communicated through the club's Facebook page. In addition to training days, the club organises weekend clinics in Dressage, Showjumping, and Eventing with registered and qualified instructors throughout the year. These clinics offer opportunities for members to receive specialised training and further improve their skills.
Club meetings are occasionally held during training days, but the Barooga Sports Club is typically used for the Annual General Meeting and some General Meetings, often preceded by a dinner. Notice of meetings is typically sent via email or posted on the CBEC Club Facebook page to ensure all members are informed and can attend.
The club's official uniform adheres to the HRCAV dress codes. The registered club colours are burgundy (main colour) with gold and black accents, which must be worn at all official events. Riders are required to wear neutral-coloured jodhpurs, long or short riding boots, and an approved equestrian helmet with a fixed harness while mounted. The club logo should be displayed on the upper body garment or saddle blanket.
Optional items such as a burgundy vest with gold buttons, a white ratcatcher/collared shirt with a stock, or a white shirt with a burgundy tie can be worn for competitions, along with the club T-shirt.
CBEC's affiliation with the HRCAV provides members with access to a wide network of equestrian enthusiasts. The HRCAV consists of 205 member clubs and 5,200 individual members across Victoria and parts of NSW. This extensive association offers a comprehensive competition system and opportunities for social interactions within the equestrian community.
Cobram Barooga Equestrian Club welcomes riders of all levels and ages who share a passion for equestrian sports. With its friendly and supportive atmosphere, CBEC aims to foster a love for horses, nurture equestrian skills, and create lasting bonds among its members. Whether you're a seasoned rider or just starting, CBEC provides a welcoming and inclusive space for equestrian enthusiasts in the Berrigan Shire Council area.
