Coast and Mountain Walkers

Coast and Mountain Walkers (CMW) is a well-established sports club in Sydney, specialising in overnight, weekend, and extended bushwalks in the beautiful national parks of the region, as well as interstate and overseas locations. Founded in 1934, CMW is one of the oldest hiking groups in Sydney and has a large and active membership base.

The club offers a wide range of activities for its members, including day walks, canyoning, packrafting, liloing, kayaking, cycling, snow touring, campfire gatherings, and social restaurant nights. Members also have the opportunity to attend monthly club meetings, featuring guest speakers who conduct presentations on relevant topics. Additionally, members receive four issues of the club's magazine, “Into the Blue,” providing them with further information and inspiration for their outdoor adventures.

CMW's walks programme is highly anticipated among members, offering a variety of experiences in different difficulty levels. Walks take place in notable locations such as the Blue Mountains, Kanangra-Boyd National Parks, and even further afield in locations like the Kosciuszko National Park, the Northern Territory, Tasmania, and overseas. From easy track walks to more challenging off-track and exploratory walks, CMW caters to members of all skill levels and preferences.

The club encourages members to take an active role in leading walks and organising social events. This fosters a strong sense of community and gives members the opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences with others.

CMW typically meets on the second Wednesday night of each month, with meetings featuring guest speakers and presentations related to bushwalking and conservation. In addition to the monthly meetings, the club hosts various social events throughout the year, including restaurant nights, the Annual Dinner, the Annual Club Campfire, and the Christmas picnic.

Becoming a member of CMW is a straightforward process. Prospective members can join for free and after completing a few qualifying walks, they can qualify as full members upon payment of a small annual fee. Full members enjoy access to all club activities and benefits, including the walks programme, monthly meetings, social events, and the club's magazine.
