Coal Point Physical Culture is a sports club located in Newcastle, Australia. Operating since 2002, the club offers physical culture classes for girls and ladies of all ages. The classes are held at the Toronto Multi-Purpose Centre in Lake Macquarie.
Physical Culture, also known as “physi,” is a sport that combines elements of dance, gymnastics, and strength training. It is a fun and inclusive activity that helps participants improve their fitness levels while learning new skills. The club offers classes for girls aged 3-4 in a preschool section, where familiar action songs are used to teach the basics of physical culture.
For girls aged 5-16, classes are divided into age sections. Each year, new choreography is introduced, with age-appropriate routines and modern music. Older girls aged 17+ join the seniors class and progress through the 1st year, 2nd year, and Open Seniors classes. The work in the seniors class may be challenging, but with practise, it becomes effortlessly graceful.
If seniors work starts to feel overwhelming, ladies have the option to join the Extended Ladies section. This section combines elements from the Seniors syllabus and the Advanced Ladies section. Ladies of all ages are welcome to join the club, whether they are beginners or have prior experience. The ladies section is divided into experience groups, starting with Elementary Ladies and progressing to 1st year, 2nd year, and Advanced Ladies.
For competitions, girls, and ladies are required to wear a leotard, skirt, and ballets. Leotards can be made out of lycra or any material with four-way stretch. While there are regulations to follow for the leotard style, creativity and custom designs are allowed. Alternatively, leotards can be ordered or purchased from various dancewear stockists.
Ballets can be purchased through brands like BLOCH, Neon Dancewear, and Grand Active Dancewear. The club also has a second-hand pool of ballets for those looking for a more cost-effective option.
