Chinese Kung Fu Academy - Maroochydore is a prestigious sports club located in Sunshine Coast, Australia. Established in 1958, it is the oldest Kung Fu school in the country and has grown significantly over the years. The academy specialises in teaching Kung Fu and Tai Chi, offering a unique and practical fighting style known as Henry Sue's Circular Tong Long.
Grandmaster Henry Sue, a 9th Degree Black Belt, is the Sifu (Head Instructor) of the academy. He began his martial arts training at the age of 11 in the Praying Mantis Style of Kung Fu. Under the guidance of Master Nat Yuen, a 9th degree Gold Belt from Hong Kong, Grandmaster Sue has trained for over 56 years and has been teaching for more than half a century. His teaching style is hands-on, personally instructing students for five sessions per week.
Grandmaster Sue has integrated the circular principles of the Chen School of Tai Chi into Kung Fu, creating a pure fighting system that he has named Henry Sue's Circular Tong Long. This unique approach emphasises devastating power and incredible speed, making it a highly effective self-defence technique. Students who train at the academy not only develop valuable self-defence skills but also experience improved fitness, better health, and enhanced self-discipline.
The Chinese Kung Fu Academy offers a variety of classes for individuals of all ages and skill levels. These include Kung Fu classes for adults, Young Mantis classes designed specifically for kids aged 7-12, Tai Chi classes, and Lion Dance classes. The Lion Dance, a traditional Chinese performance art, adds a cultural element to the academy's offerings.
All instructors at the academy are accredited with the Australian Kung Fu and Wushu Federation (AKWF). They undergo sport-specific martial arts coaching training and examinations, hold current Blue Cards, which permit them to teach children, and possess First Aid certifications. The instructors follow a strict code of conduct to ensure the safety and well-being of students during their training sessions.
The Chinese Kung Fu Academy is associated and accredited with several governing bodies, including the Australian Institute of Sport and the Martial Arts Industry Association. These affiliations highlight the academy's commitment to maintaining high standards in martial arts training.
