Casey Cannons Hockey Club, formerly known as Berwick Hockey Club, has a rich history that dates back to its establishment in 1989. Founded by experienced coach Kevin Moore, the club began with two women's teams and three junior teams and was originally based at Sydney Pargetar Reserve in Endeavour Hills.
In its inaugural year, the club achieved success when the women's seconds (MD5) team, captained by Kerry Hicks, won the club's first leadingship. The club continued to expand, entering a men's team in 1992 and experiencing growth in the junior ranks.
By 1993, there was a significant push to transition from grass grounds to synthetic surfaces. The club started playing more frequently at Dandenong's Mills Rd, which featured a new synthetic surface. In 1998, the club changed its name to Casey Hockey Club.
Although success eluded the senior group, the junior unit thrived, winning two leadingships and establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with. In 2000, the club added a Veterans team, further expanding their offerings.
The club's fortunes took a turn for the better in 2001 when the Men's SL5 team narrowly missed out on a preliminary final win but were promoted to SL4 by the association. The biggest news came when the council announced the construction of a new synthetic turf pitch in the City of Casey. On March 26, 2002, Casey trained on the new pitch at Berwick Secondary School for the first time.
Throughout the 2000s, the club continued to grow its membership and in 2007, a new club room was built. The years between 2011 and 2013 proved to be particularly successful for the club, as they secured three premierships in a row.
The club's success continued into the 2010s, with the men's team reaching the prestigious Men's top grade in 2015. The women's team followed suit in 2016, being promoted to the VL1 grade.
With a strong playing group in the men's, women's, and junior units, Casey Cannons Hockey Club is well-positioned to continue its growth and success in the coming years.
The club is proud to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which they play and train, the Bunurong People of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation. They pay their respects to their Elders, past and present, and extend their respects to any Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Casey Hockey Club members and visitors.
