The Capricorn Coast Football club started on the Capricorn Coast in 1972. Initially all junior teams and senior teams played in the Rockhampton competition with juniors playing at the cricket grounds adjacent to the old Rockhampton Bridge, moving to Norbridge Park in 1977.
In the short history of the club, CCFC has had much success with the juniors, senior men’s and women’s competitions with the silverware to prove it. This success is attributed to the dedication of players and volunteers that have tirelessly worked to shape this club. CCFC is a young club in comparison to the Rockhampton competitors but for a short history CCFC have achieved great results.
The amount of parents, grandparents, and community members visiting Apex Park on a regular basis is quite large. Our fields are also used by the local touch football competition, school groups and training camps meaning advertising at our grounds is seen by a large proportion of the local community.
The large number of participants that our club attracts is in part due to our successful competition history. In 2007 our premier men’s team won their first Grand Final and in 2009 our senior women’s team did the same. 2010 was a hugely successful year for the club with the leading men’s, men’s 3rd division and senior women’s winning grand finals and the men’s premier reserves finishing as runners up. Since then our men’s teams have remained competitive.
Our women’s team have had a string of grand final appearances, both in the Rockhampton competition and in the Mackay 8-a-side carnival, finishing runners up every year other than 2009 and 2010 when they won. Our junior teams have also experienced success. Most recently in the 2012 season, our U/12 team finished as minor leadings and grand final runners up, with our U/14 team finishing third, going on to take out the grand final.
The club has also run a number of junior leagues that play at Apex Park on a Saturday morning. These cater for children in age groups from U/11 down to the little kickers which is a programme catering for prep aged children.
The U/11 and U/9 competitions allow local children to play football in Yeppoon, semi competitively, without having to travel into Rockhampton every weekend. This allows local kids to be introduced to football in a positive environment and consequently helps them to develop active, healthy lifestyles.
The little kickers programme is a skill developing programme for prep aged children. It is largely supported by senior club players and associated representative players such as Dylan Kussrow from the previously known Capricorn Cougars. This programme also develops positive exposure to sport and active, healthy lifestyles with an emphasis on participation.
A 2009 study published on the Australian Bureau of Statistics website (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2009) listed football (soccer) as the second most popular sport in Australia for children aged between 5 and 14, behind swimming. With football (soccer) being the most popular sport for boys in this age category. This data should reassure you that football is a positive experience for children all over Australia as well as in the Yeppoon area. Sponsorship of this club, as well as the continued hard work and dedication of our volunteers, will ensure that our community is privileged with access to football for years to come.
