The Camperdown Angling Club Inc. (CAC) is a family-oriented sports club located on the southern shores of Lake Bullen Merri in Camperdown, Victoria. Established in the early 1920s, the club provides a place for individuals and families to fish all year round.
The club's magnificent clubhouse serves as a hub for monthly meetings, which take place every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm. The clubhouse is also available for hire, offering a spacious and comfortable environment for various events and gatherings. With an average annual membership of around 80 senior and junior members, CAC boasts a vibrant and welcoming community.
Lake Bullen Merri, the club's home, is renowned for its trophy fish. Anglers can expect to find Brown and Rainbow Trout weighing up to 5 kg, Australian Bass weighing up to 3 kg, and the mighty Chinook Salmon, which can reach an impressive 10 kg. These iconic salmon can only be found in the Camperdown crater lakes Bullen Merri and Purrumbete, making them a prized catch for dedicated anglers.

The club has a rich history of stocking Lake Bullen Merri with various fish species. The first stocking of the lake is believed to have taken place in 1905, but further stocking was initially abandoned due to concerns about the lake's salinity. However, in 1914, two avid anglers, Mr. Arthur Hyde and Mr.
Walter Henry, took it upon themselves to secure Rainbow Trout from Ballarat Hatcheries. Despite facing potential prosecution from the Department of Games, they successfully released the fish into the lake in 1920/21. This marked the beginning of the Camperdown Angling Club, which was officially formed in 1923.
In 1964, the club members decided to establish their own clubrooms. The club successfully secured an area of land at the South Beach of Lake Bullen Merri, and with the help of dedicated volunteers from the Camperdown and Preston Angling Clubs, a building was purchased and erected. This building, which cost 350 Pounds, became the club's first dedicated meeting space. Today, the club rooms offer various facilities including sleeping accommodations for 12 people, showers, male and female toilets, and kitchen facilities.
Whether you are a seasoned angler or new to the sport, the Camperdown Angling Club welcomes all who love the thrill of fishing. With a stunning location, rich history, and a warm and inclusive community, CAC is the perfect place to enjoy the sport all year round.
