Brisbane Fly Fishing Club

Fly Fishing Club is a social sports club based in Brisbane, Australia. Founded in 2009 and officially incorporated in 2013, the club's main goal is to actively engage and promote the sport of fly-fishing in an ethical and sustainable manner. The club offers a welcoming environment for both experienced fly fishers and beginners, encouraging members to exchange tips, techniques, and experiences in fly tying, casting, and fishing locations.

The Brisbane Fly Fishing Club holds three get-togethers each month. These include a meeting on the water, one at their clubhouse, and one in cyberspace. The club night, held on the third Wednesday of the month, takes place at the North Brisbane Scout Centre in Enoggera. Food and refreshments are available during the evening, and members can enjoy an evening of fishy business.

The club also hosts casting tuition sessions for those interested in improving their casting skills. Additionally, the club now meets on the first Wednesday of the month for their popular Virtual Fly Tying (VFT) events, held via Zoom and focused on tying flies appropriate for upcoming club fishing adventures.

In addition to monthly meetings, the Brisbane Fly Fishing Club organises regular club outings, typically held every two months. These outings offer members the opportunity to target seasonal fish species and learn from experienced club members. The club also periodically hosts weekend casting clinics led by nationally and internationally renowned casting instructors. Demonstrations from fly-fishing suppliers are also regularly held.

One of the club's most prominent events is the Brisbane Tuna on Fly (BTOF) competition, which takes place each year during Autumn in the waters off Bribie Island. The competition is open to all fly anglers who have registered and paid the entry fee. A registration and briefing session is held on the Friday night before the competition, which runs all day Saturday and until noon on Sunday. The Brisbane Fly Fishing Club welcomes both prospective members and visiting fly fishers to join them at their events. However, participation may be restricted to financial club members for some events due to insurance requirements.
