Run by members, for members, the club operates as a not-for-profit organisation with a strong focus on fostering a vibrant sailing community.
The Botany Bay Yacht Club offers a wide range of sailing activities, including racing and cruising keel boat events on the enclosed waters of Botany Bay, Kogarah Bay, and the Georges River. One of their popular events is the Summer Sunset Sailing, which takes place on Friday evenings. Participants can enjoy races starting at 18:30, providing the perfect start to the weekend. This event is suitable for individuals who are new to sailing or have taken a few lessons, as it provides an opportunity to build sailing skills in the sheltered waters of Kogarah Bay and the Georges River.
The club is also proud to host the Endeavour National Championships, which will take place on 19 and 20 January 2019. This prestigious event celebrates 50 years since the production of the first Endeavour 26. Participants can join in the excitement and enjoy a bacon and egg roll before the races commence.
Another highlight on the club's calendar is the Australia Day Regatta and Fireworks on 26 January 2019. This event features a handicap start with slower boats having a head start from 11:40 am. The race takes participants on a lap of the bay, starting in Kogarah Bay, then heading to Kurnell and Yarra Bay. Cruisers are also welcome to participate, and a special dinner is organised afterward, with steak or salmon and salad followed by pavlova or lamingtons.
In addition to racing events, the Botany Bay Yacht Club offers Saturday Afternoon Racing with various courses available, including olympic, transit, and sprint courses. New crew members are always welcomed, and boat owners have the flexibility to compete throughout the entire year or choose their preferred race series.
For those interested in cruising, the club organises last Sunday cruising events, providing an opportunity for members to cruise in company on the last Sunday of every month. Members can stay updated on all the latest news and events through the club's Log or their cruising Facebook page.
Membership at the Botany Bay Yacht Club is open to new members, and crew membership is available at an affordable rate of only $130 per year. The club also offers a free trial for crewing, allowing individuals to experience sailing before committing. AusSea Sailing School offers learn-to-sail courses on Botany Bay, and BBYC members enjoy a 10% discount on all courses.
For added convenience, the club provides a tender for transport to and from vessels on the Club's register in Kogarah Bay. To stay updated on the club's latest news and photos, make sure to follow them on Facebook.
