Boroondara Bushwalkers is a sports club based in Melbourne, Australia, that organises regular bushwalks and other outdoor activities in parks and forests near Melbourne, throughout Victoria, and even interstate. The club offers day walks on most Sundays, some Saturdays, and some Wednesdays or Thursdays. These walks are usually within a 1-2 hour drive from Melbourne, but there are also walks within metropolitan Melbourne. It is common for the club to carpool from Kew to reach the walk start, but walkers have the option to not participate in carpooling if they prefer.
The club also offers multi-day activities, including overnight walks with packs and base camps in cabins or tents, with associated day walks. Overnight activities are typically held over long weekends and in major holiday periods, in bush locations in country Victoria and interstate.
In addition to bushwalks, Boroondara Bushwalkers also organises regular social events and occasional snow trips, cycling outings, and canoeing activities. The club is open to walkers of all fitness levels and beginners are especially welcome. Visitors are also invited to join the club for walks, and there is additional information for visitors available on their website.
Monthly meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month (except January) in the Phyllis Hore Room, rear Kew Library, Cotham Road, Kew. Meetings start at 8pm, but visitors are requested to arrive by 7:40pm and make themselves known at the reception. These meetings provide a great opportunity to meet club members, learn about recent and upcoming bushwalks, and often feature guest speakers.
Boroondara Bushwalkers is an incorporated entity under the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012 and is affiliated with Bushwalking Victoria (BWV), which is the peak body for Victorian bushwalkers. BWV membership provides club members with access to public liability insurance, personal accident insurance, and training opportunities.
For more information about Boroondara Bushwalkers or to contact them, visitors are encouraged to explore their website. The club acknowledges and pays respects to the Traditional Owners of the land on which they meet and walk.
Please note that the walks programme provided may be subject to changes and additions as advised at monthly meetings and through other communication channels. Walkers are also reminded to adhere to Covid-safe behaviour at all times, and carpooling is at the discretion of individual drivers.
