Blackwood United Football Club is a soccer club located in the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup, Western Australia. Established in 2002, the club was founded by Amanda and Steve Hawkins, who had a passion for the sport and saw the need for a soccer club in the region.
The journey for Blackwood United began with teaching lessons at Balingup Primary School and hosting after-school sessions on the school oval. As the interest and participation grew, parents from nearby towns such as Greenbushes, Kirup, and Bridgetown started to join, leading to the need for a larger venue. The decision was made to utilise the local town oval, despite its poor condition, as it was the best option available.
With the increase in player numbers, the club formed a couple of teams and joined the Lower South West Soccer League (LSWSL) for the 2002/03 season. A committee was established, and a constitution was written, officially creating the Balingup Soccer Club.
The early seasons of the club saw an abundance of volunteers who were dedicated to the club's success. Coaches, managers, canteen staff, kit washers, and orange cutters all contributed to the smooth running of the club. The strong ethos established at this time continues to guide the club to this day.
Blackwood United Football Club offers various teams for both men and women, including a Masters team. The contact information for each team is listed on the club's official website. The club also recognises the importance of carnivals and annual events. Since its establishment, Blackwood United FC has been hosting and attending various soccer carnivals. These events provide an opportunity for players to form friendships, and the club believes they are integral to its existence. The club has hosted the Blackwood Senior 5-a-side carnival annually from 2011 to 2015.
