Needs the support and participation of dedicated volunteers. The Black Rock Life Saving Club (LSC) is a sports club based in Melbourne that aims to provide a fun and family-based environment for individuals of all ages to learn the principles of water safety, health, fitness, resuscitation, and the aquatic environment.
The club is run entirely by volunteers and provides the community with qualified lifesavers who patrol the local beach throughout the summer. Members of the club can start their journey as a nipper, cadet, senior, or master. Regardless of age, all members develop an awareness of beaches and learn how to keep themselves safe in an aquatic environment before honing their first aid and rescue skills to help others.
The Black Rock LSC prides itself on providing a safe, friendly, and welcoming environment where all members can interact and enjoy the health and social benefits of belonging to a club that embraces team spirit and inclusion. The club offers various programmes to cater to different age groups and interests.
The Nipper Programme is a surf education programme designed for children aged 5 to 14 years. It teaches them how to have fun and stay safe in the beautiful aquatic environment on their doorstep. While it's not a learn to swim programme, all members are required to achieve the preliminary skills level for their age group.
The Life Saving programme at Black Rock LSC equips members with invaluable lifesaving skills, including first aid and CPR, enabling them to become community lifesavers. These skills are taught through training sessions and members have the opportunity to volunteer as lifesavers in the community.
The Youth/Senior programme is a fun group of teenagers and young adults who enjoy training in an aquatic environment. They participate in various activities and further develop their skills in lifeguarding and water safety.
The club also emphasises the importance of competition and offers a competition programme that helps members stay fit, active, and engaged while building their skills. These sport competitions play a vital role in member development and take place throughout the year.
In addition to the various programmes, the Black Rock LSC also appreciates the support of local businesses as sponsors and supporters. This support enables the club to provide a patrolled beach over the summer and offer water safety and training programmes for the community.
