The Bendigo & District Fly Fishers Inc. is a sports club located in Bendigo, Australia. The club is dedicated to promoting the art and passion of fly-fishing. They offer opportunities for members to learn and improve their skills in casting and fly tying through regular trips, workshops, and tying nights.
The club holds a monthly general meeting at the Brennan Park Pool on the last Thursday of every month, starting at 7:30 pm. These meetings often feature guest speakers who are masters of the art of fly-fishing, such as Peter Hayes, Mick Hall, Phil Weigall, Neil Grose, Muzz Wilson, and David Dodds. Members also have access to a Club Library where they can borrow books, videos, and DVDs related to fly-fishing.
New members are always welcome at the Bendigo & District Fly Fishers Inc. , and upon joining, they are assigned a mentor to help them navigate the world of fly-fishing. The club is affiliated with the Midlands and North Central Angling Association and the Council of Victorian Fly Fishing Clubs. They also participate in various fly-fishing competitions and were the Victorian Club Champions in 2005.
Fly-fishing tuition is a core focus of the club, and members have the opportunity to learn how to tie their own flies. Catching fish using flies that they have tied themselves is seen as one of the most exhilarating experiences in fly-fishing. The club also offers casting tuition, recognising that the ability to cast quickly and accurately is a fundamental skill that can significantly increase one's catch rate. In the past, world-renowned casting instructor Peter Hayes has conducted clinics for the club.
In addition to regular meetings and tuition, the Bendigo & District Fly Fishers Inc. organises club trips throughout the year. These trips take members to various locations, such as Khancoban, Snowy Mountains, and the Goulburn River. Some members also organise private trips to destinations like Tasmania and New Zealand.
These trips provide ample opportunities for members to practise their fly-fishing skills in different environments and connect with fellow enthusiasts.
