About

The first recorded shoot held by a Gun Club in Bendigo was on the 27th January 1856.

factual evidence has not as yet been located and the existence of such records is doubtful.

With the advent of this organised shotgun shoot , the Bendigo Clay Target Club’s beginnings were established.

Throughout the years to follow the club would go through various name changes and ground locations.

The Bendigo Clay Target Club has also been known as the Bendigo Gun Club and the Huntly Gun Club.

The Huntly Gun Club was formed in 1958 when the Bendigo Gun Club and the Myers Flat Gun Club amalgamated.

The Club became the Bendigo Clay Target Club when it moved to its current location at Woodvale in 1971.

Of interest is the fact the Huntly Gun Club was located at Epsom, the locality of the shoot held in 1856.

the Huntly Gun Club was located next to the Bendigo Pottery on the Midland Highway.

These facts support the claim the Bendigo Clay Target Club is the oldest known shotgun club in Australia, if not the Southern Hemisphere.

The club is recognised as one of the strongest in Australia, and it is very family orientated. The club continually upgrades its equipment and facilities.
