The Barossa Valley Little Athletics Centre is a sports club located in The Barossa Council in South Australia. With a focus on family, fun, and fitness, the club provides an opportunity for young people from 4 to 17 years old to develop their talents in all forms of Track and Field Athletics. It is a recreational sport that promotes positive attitudes and a healthy lifestyle through family and community involvement.
The club's competition nights are held at the Nuriootpa High School oval on Wednesday evenings at 5:00 pm. The night begins with a warm-up and stretch, followed by athletes being grouped into age groups. They then move as a group through a programme of events accompanied by their rostered age group chaperone and official. The club rotates through 5 different event programmes, each containing a variety of runs, throws, and jumps.
In addition to the club competition nights, athletes also have the opportunity to compete at interclub and state events held on Sundays throughout the season.
Training sessions are held at the Nuriootpa High School oval on Monday evenings from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm for age groups U6 to U17. The club has certified and experienced coaches for all age groups. Training involves a warm-up and stretch, skills work, fitness games/activities, and a cool down. While training nights are recommended to help athletes improve their technique and fitness, they are not compulsory.
Visitors are always welcome to attend training sessions.
Little Athletics is all about fun, making friends, family participation, and healthy activities. It is a recreational sport for children from 3 to 17 years and their families. The Barossa Valley Little Athletics Centre is one of many centres in South Australia that conduct Little Athletics programmes. Little Athletics covers all the normal activities that children enjoy, such as running, throwing, and jumping.
The club provides a supportive and friendly atmosphere for families to enjoy “Family Fun and Fitness” together.
