Barbarians Hockey Club

Barbarians “Barbs” Hockey Club has been around for over 30 years. It was formed in 1982 by a group of blokes who, after playing for a couple of different clubs, wanted to start a club of their own. As testimony to the longevity of the club many of the founding members remain heavily involved in the Barbs Hockey Club either as players, coaches, parents of players or simply avid supporters.

Our club has grown from it's small beginnings to become one of the biggest in the Grafton Competition. As a self-confessed family club our teams are spread across the Senior Men's, Junior Boy's and Women's competitions. In 2012 Barbs had 6 teams competing in the Junior Boy's, 5 across Senior Men's and a strong AR2 Women's team. At the completion of the 2012 season, although all teams proved to be strong competitors and in some cases unexpected victors in the Grand Final (Barbs Horribles B-Grade in particular), the bragging rights went to Barbs Hagars.

The A-Grade Men's team coached for the second year by Kyran “Bugzy” Robertson made history winning back-to-back Grand Finals and keeping their competitors to nil across both victories (2-0 and 3-0 respectively).

Barbs members have been known to love a party and our social activities help cater for those needs but when there's work to be done we are there, running events ie; Junior Kelly Cup, umpiring, coaching and managing club and rep level just to name a few. We are not elitist but the success we enjoy with our younger players reflects the hard work and dedication from our senior and A grade players. Their encouragement to enjoy the game win, lose or draw shows in our juniors' good sportsmanship on and off the field. Our club happily caters for players at all levels of hockey from beginners to social players and the more serious representative and Academy players.

We believe through quality coaching all players deserve an equal chance to reach their fullest potential whatever that may be.

At Barbarians Hockey Club there is no voice that is too small that it cannot be heard.
