Banyule Bicycle User Group Inc is a community group located in Melbourne, Australia, with a shared passion for cycling. The group aims to bring people together to participate in rides, socialise, have fun, get fit, advocate for better cycling facilities, and promote the benefits of cycling.
The group organises rides on various days of the week, including Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, with some rides starting earlier during the summer months from December to March. Most rides depart from Warringal Park, Beverley Road, Heidelberg, which is conveniently located close to the Main Yarra Trail.
Banyule BUG emphasises the importance of safety and strongly recommends that all riders wear bright clothing, easily visible by motorists, pedestrians, and other cyclists. Riders are also encouraged to wear a white or hi-vis helmet and use bright flashing bike lights on the front and rear of their bikes.
In addition to weekly rides, Banyule BUG holds regular meetings throughout the year, including committee meetings, an annual general meeting (AGM), and an annual dinner and awards night. The group also organises casual dinners and social events, providing members with opportunities to connect and build new friendships outside of cycling.
The rides offered by Banyule BUG cater to riders of various skill levels. The Friday 9. 30am and Thursday 9. 00am rides are specifically designed for newcomers and aim to help them become regular riders.
The Lycra group rides, taking place on Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday, and one Friday each month, provide riders with the chance to explore parks and other interesting places, with breaks for BYO food and coffee/tea.
For cyclists looking for a more relaxed pace, the “Latte Group” rides on Tuesday and Friday at 9. 20am and 9. 30am respectively. These rides include stops at cafés for lunch and coffee breaks, offering a leisurely and enjoyable cycling experience.
Banyule BUG is committed to helping riders improve their skills, maximise their riding potential, and ensure their safety on the roads. Members of the group are readily available to provide guidance, assistance, and advice to anyone looking to enhance their riding technique and overall biking experience.
Join Banyule BUG to be part of a vibrant cycling community, meet fellow cycling enthusiasts, explore new routes, and have fun while staying active and healthy.
