Backstreet Dance, Cairns is a vibrant and highly regarded sports club located in the suburb of Manunda in Cairns, Queensland. With a focus on promoting fun and positive experiences, Backstreet Dance offers a wide range of dance classes for performers of all ages and skill levels.
At Backstreet Dance, the philosophy of our performance expectations is to encourage performers to have fun while expressing themselves in front of a supportive audience. We believe in creating a positive and inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy the experience of performing.
When it comes to our performances, certain expectations must be met by all performers. For instance, all performers are required to wear some type of face decoration, whether it be glitter, eyeshadow, diamonties, or face paint. Female students are also expected to wear red lipstick and accentuate their features with makeup. Boys are encouraged to ask for ideas if needed.
Costumes for performances are not handed out unless they have been paid for. Performers are required to wear the costume allocated to them, including any headwear specified in the costume drawing. These costumes are only to be worn during rehearsals and the production, and must be returned according to the Costume Conditions.
To ensure a secure and comfortable fit, safety pins and bobby pins are allowed to be used on costumes, but they must be removed before returning them to the studio. Hairstyles must be kept out of the face during performances and styled according to the direction on the costume newsletter.
In terms of shoes, all performers must wear the correct shoes for their dance style during rehearsals and the production. Detailed information on the appropriate shoes can be found on our website.
Wristbands are provided to all performers and are required to be worn during the performance. Failure to wear the wristband may result in a charge of $20, unless the wristband is returned to Costume Returns with a replacement. Filming is not permitted during rehearsals or the production, but we will provide performers' families with a copy of the footage through a text message or Dropbox link.
Photography is allowed only during rehearsals when announced by the teacher. Any absences must be communicated to the Backstreet Mobile Phone as soon as possible, and attendance at rehearsals is compulsory unless the performer is sick or has an important event or school camp. New performers who are unable to attend rehearsals must arrange for a stage orientation before the production.
Tickets are required for entry to the show, except for performers. In the event that tickets are forgotten or lost, another ticket must be purchased. Unfortunately, no refunds, exchanges, or credits will be given for those unable to attend the show.
At Backstreet Dance, we emphasise positive and friendly behaviour. Anyone who acts in a negative or unfriendly manner may be pulled aside or asked to leave the venue. Verbal or physical abuse towards staff members or volunteers will not be tolerated, and repeated behaviour may result in being asked to leave.
