About

Welcome to Avalon Sailing Club, a family-oriented sports club located in Clareville, on Pittwater, in Sydney's Northern Beaches area. Nestled in the Garigal Country of the traditional custodians, we pride ourselves on our friendly and relaxed atmosphere, with a dedicated purpose to foster the love of sailing on the waters of Pittwater.

Avalon Sailing Club is well-known for nurturing young talent, with many children first learning to sail here and going on to represent Australia in prestigious events such as the Olympics, Americas Cup, Sail GP, and the Sydney to Hobart race. Our Centreboard division offers training and racing opportunities, with classes including Manly Junior, Open Skiff, Flying 11, Spiral, Laser, Waszp, and Puffin Pacer. We are a Discover Sailing Centre, welcoming children around the age of 7 or 8 to join our Learn to Sail programme.

For those seeking a competitive sailing experience, our Yacht Racing Programme consists of three inshore and two offshore series, allowing members to race from one Sunday to every Sunday a month during the season. We also cater to those who prefer a more leisurely approach to sailing, providing opportunities to cruise to beautiful locations and make use of the Club's moorings in the local area.

Located on a beach with commanding views of Pittwater, also known as “the Pond,” Avalon Sailing Club offers a truly memorable setting for our members and visitors. The combination of our picturesque location, relaxed and enthusiastic membership, and volunteer culture creates our unique “Vibe” that makes everyone feel at home. We take pride in our strong social aspect, organising monthly BBQs on the deck, cruises, picnics, dinners, and various other activities to bring our members together.

Our Learn to Sail programme goes beyond boat handling and sailing skills, teaching children about weather, the environment, resilience, leadership, and the importance of helping and teaching others. Many lifelong friendships have been forged among the kids who first met at Avalon Sailing Club.

Volunteering is a cornerstone of our club, and members are encouraged to volunteer at least twice a season. Many choose to volunteer almost every weekend, as the engagement brings them closer to their children and the local community. Whether you have ample sailing experience or none at all, there are volunteering roles suited to your abilities. From running the canteen to assisting on the deck and on the water, every contribution helps create a fulfilling experience for all.
