The Australian White Tiger School of Combined Martial Arts Incorporated, located in Adelaide, is a renowned sports club that offers training in various martial arts disciplines. Founded by Sensei Philip C. Newton in the early 90s, the club started with a small group of dedicated martial artists and has since grown rapidly.
The club's humble beginnings took place in a Baptist Church in Elizabeth, with only four students. However, within a few months, the club's popularity grew, and the number of students increased to 20. In 1998, the classes moved to St'jays in Salisbury, and the club's student base expanded to an impressive 150 members. Many of these students achieved outstanding success in national tournaments, with Sensei Philip Newton himself winning the State Title in the National All Styles tournament.
In 1999, classes expanded to include locations in Mawson Lakes and Modbury, further contributing to the club's growth. Sensei Philip Newton invested a significant amount of resources into the club's development, aiming to support and inspire aspiring martial artists. His dedication and leadership led to the Australian White Tiger School of Combined Martial Arts Inc. being awarded the title of Best Martial Arts Club of the Year for South Australia in 2000.
Due to his influential role in the club and the admiration of his students, Sensei Philip Newton was recognised as the founder and bestowed with the name “Kancho. ” In 2005, both Kancho and the club were honoured with a Youth Champion Award by the Mayor of Salisbury for their work with young people in the area.
In 2006, the club underwent a complete revamp and was officially registered as the Australian White Tiger School of Combined Martial Arts Inc. Today, the club offers training in various martial arts disciplines at different locations across the city and country. Classes are held on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at Madison Park Primary School and Thomas Moore College in Salisbury, and on Friday nights at Salisbury High School. Additionally, the club holds classes on Tuesday and Thursday nights in Kadina and Port Wakefield, respectively.
