About

Welcome to the Australian Powerchair Football Association! Based in Sydney, Australia, the Australian Powerchair Football Association (APFA) is the home of powerchair football in the country. Powerchair Football is a modified version of football (or soccer) that is specifically designed for powerchair users. The sport combines specially modified powerchairs and an oversized ball, creating a fast-paced and highly tactical game that showcases the skills of incredible athletes.

APFA is proud to be hosting the 2023 FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup from 15 to 21 October, 2023. As hosts of the tournament, APFA is running a fundraising campaign through the Australian Sports Foundation. Individuals can contribute to this campaign by clicking on the ASF logo.

What makes powerchair football unique is that it can be played by people of all ages, genders, and abilities. As long as you are able to drive a powerchair and use one for everyday mobility, you can play this exciting sport. APFA's member associations run powerchair football across the nation, providing opportunities for people to get involved in their local communities.

APFA organises various competitions throughout the year, including our annual Club Championships and National Championships. The Newcastle Jets are the current Club Champions, having won in 2020 and 2022, while Queensland is the reigning National Champion from 2018. Our sport is also played internationally, with recent results including victories for the Australian Poweroos in the APO Cup against Japan and New Zealand.

We highly value our partnerships and friendships within the powerchair football community. We are proud to have an official accommodation partner and collaborate with various organisations to ensure the growth and success of powerchair football in Australia.

For more information about APFA, our competitions, or how to get involved, please visit our website or follow us on Facebook. We look forward to welcoming you to the powerchair football family and sharing the excitement of this unique and inclusive sport.
