The Australian National University Boat Club (ANUBC) is the oldest rowing club in the Australian Capital Territory, founded in 1964. It is highly regarded as one of the most successful sporting clubs at the University, having been awarded ANU Club of the Year for the past 8 years. The club's home is the ANU boathouse, conveniently located on Sullivan's Creek, just 200 metres upstream from Lake Burley Gryphon, inside the University campus.
ANUBC's primary objective is to promote and nurture the sport of rowing for the University and the wider community. The club caters to rowers of all skill levels, from beginners to elite athletes. Whether one aims to pursue a rowing career, participate in University Games and local regattas, or simply try something new, ANUBC offers opportunities for all.
Throughout its history, ANUBC has been known for its competitive spirit and has produced national champions and representatives. The club has also achieved success in intervarsity and interstate competitions. The calendar is filled with important events, including the Australian University Games, Disher Cup, Head of the Yarra, National Championships, and ACT and NSW Championships.
ANUBC extends a warm welcome to new members, regardless of their rowing experience. Novice rowers are particularly encouraged to join, and the club runs an annual Introduction to Rowing programme to provide guidance and training. It's significant to note that membership with ANUBC is not limited to ANU students. Anyone with an interest in rowing is welcome to join.
For membership inquiries and enrolment in the Introduction to Rowing programme, individuals can visit the respective pages on the club's website. ANUBC's membership fees vary depending on the category and duration of membership. Full-year membership fees for ANU students range from $430 for rowers to $50 for non-rowing coxswains. Other student and non-student membership options are available as well.
ANUBC takes pride in being a programme of ANU Sport, and the club's operations are supported by Squarespace. For more information about ANUBC, its history, events, and merchandise, individuals can visit the club's website, where they can also find a blog, donation opportunities, and contact details.
