Augusta-Margaret River Football Club, affectionately known as “The Hawks,” has been an integral part of the South West Football League (SWFL) since its inception in 1966. The club has a strong and passionate community that has contributed to its success over the years.
The Hawks community is made up of dedicated individuals who have given their time and effort to support the club. Their commitment to the club and the love for the game of football have helped shape the Hawks into the outstanding club that it is today.
The club is based at Gloucester Park in Margaret River, where its facilities were first established in 1976. These facilities were later expanded and renovated in 1978, becoming a source of pride for the club. In fact, the Hawks were the first football club outside the metropolitan area to be granted a full liquor licence.
Since joining the SWFL, the Hawks have achieved remarkable success on the field. They were crowned League tops in 1994 and 1995 and Reserves tops in 1980, 1994, and 1996. The Colts team also tasted success, winning leadingships in 1991 and 1992. The year 2011 was a standout year for the Hawks, as they clinched premierships in the League, Reserves, and Netball divisions.
Many Hawks players have also received individual recognition for their exceptional performances. Notable winners of the SWFL Fairest and Best Hayward Medal include Michael Merritt (1966), Ross Tyson (1976 & 1977), Peter Ivanoff (1981), Richie Lee (1985 & 1986), Justin Cook (1990), Jeremy Humm (2012), Mitch Lynn (2018), and Simon Moore (2021).
