An-Yu Badminton Academy is a renowned sports club in Perth, Western Australia, specialising in coaching and training for badminton players of all ages and skill levels. The academy was founded in 2009 by Zheng Yuli, a retired professional badminton player from China.
Zheng Yuli is a highly accomplished player in her own right, having earned bronze medals as a semifinalist at the 1985 and 1987 IBF World Championships in women's singles. She also achieved victories at the Japan Open in 1984 and the Denmark Open in 1984 and 1986. Zheng represented China at the Uber Cup, winning the women's international championship in 1986 and 1988. After retiring, she moved to Perth with her two daughters and pursued her passion for coaching.
The academy primarily caters to children who have an interest in badminton as both a hobby and a competitive sport. In addition to providing coaching and training, An-Yu Badminton Academy actively supports the Western Australia State Badminton teams. Yuli has coached the Under 17s WA State team in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2016. The 2014 team even made history by winning a bronze medal, while the 2016 team achieved further success by winning a silver medal.
One of Yuli's students from the academy also won the triple crown during this time.
An-Yu Badminton Academy organises various events and tournaments to promote family bonding and friendly competition. One such event is the annual Tan and Tan Family Cup, where parent-child teams compete against each other. This tournament aims to strengthen family ties while enjoying the sport of badminton. The academy also hosts the annual An Yu and Tan and Tan Lawyers Family Tournament, which has gained popularity since its inception in 2014.
This tournament encourages parents and children to play as a team, with rules in place to ensure that young players receive equal opportunities to showcase their skills and improve their game.
Through Yuli's coaching, many young players at the academy have shown significant improvement and determination to excel in badminton. This not only benefits the players themselves but also contributes to the future development of Western Australia's state teams. An-Yu Badminton Academy takes pride in nurturing and training players of all ages, from the under 11s to the over 15s.
