The dojo is located at Avalon Recreation Centre on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Situated at 59 Old Barrenjoey Rd in Avalon Beach, the facility is state-of-the-art and offers a perfect training environment. The dojo itself has a beautiful northern aspect with ceiling to floor windows that open directly to Dunbar Park, allowing for natural light and a peaceful surrounding.
The facility is equipped with sun-blinds, overhead fans, heaters, sprung timber floors, a kitchen, change rooms, lockable storage, and toilet facilities. It is considered one of the best training facilities in Sydney. Ample parking is available nearby, making it convenient for members.
After training, members have the opportunity to enjoy the surrounding area of Avalon village. There are pleasant cafés and restaurants to relax and refuel, as well as the option to take a refreshing swim at Avalon Beach. The dojo's location provides a unique opportunity to combine training with leisure and community.
Aikido Kokikai Avalon offers classes for both kids and adults. It is for all people regardless of size, age, or gender. Instructors are dedicated to teaching the Kokikai Aikido tradition, which focuses on dealing with multiple types of attacks, with or without weapons, and against one or multiple attackers. The style emphasises natural movement, ki development, relaxation, good posture, and mind-body coordination.
The goal is to make techniques effective while using minimal physical effort. Classes are taught by Fourth Dan Black Belt and Avalon resident, Paul Coonan, also known as Sensei Pablo. With 26 years of experience in aikido and a background in various martial arts, including Brazilian Ju Jitsu, Judo, and Karate, Sensei Pablo brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his teachings.
