The name Adelong was taken from an Aboriginal language and means “along the way”. Many European explorers passed through Adelong in its early days, but the town didn't really come alive until gold was discovered in large quantities in 1857.
This unique heritage-listed township has a rich gold mining past. Over 25 tonnes of gold was mined from 1857 to the close of the mine in 1914.
