Adelaide Aikido-Ka is a renowned sports club located in Clarence Gardens, South Australia. This club offers a unique training experience for individuals who are interested in exploring conflict resolution through movement. The club's name, Aikido-Ka, translates to “a student of Aikido”, reflecting their dedication to studying this remarkable martial art form.
Aikido is often referred to as the Art of Peace and is considered a martial art of the contemporary world. The term “Aikido” consists of three characters: “Ai” which represents the principle of blending or harmonising, “ki” which symbolises spirit, and “do” which refers to the way or path. Therefore, Aikido signifies the union and harmonisation of body and spirit. It should be noted that Aikido is neither a sport nor a religion, but rather a way of life.
All senior members of Adelaide Aikido-Ka are affiliated with the Aikikai Foundation in Tokyo, thanks to their long-standing connexion with the kumano juku dojo in Shingu, Japan. This affiliation ensures that the training at Adelaide Aikido-Ka follows the traditional principles and values of Aikido.
The club welcomes individuals from all backgrounds who share the vision of physical training in a cooperative and non-competitive environment. No prior knowledge of martial arts is required to join. The training sessions can be tailored according to the preferences and abilities of each participant, ranging from dynamic, vigorous, and explosive movements to more subtle and subdued practises.
Adelaide Aikido-Ka offers classes on Tuesdays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturdays from 8:30am to 10:30am. The dojo is conveniently located on the Corner of South Road & Dinwoodie Avenue in Clarence Gardens. Access to the dojo is available from Dinwoodie Avenue.
