The 66th IOS Round the Island Race is set to be a thrilling long-distance sailing challenge organized by the Isle Of Sheppey Sailing Club. Taking place on August 31st and September 1st, 2024, with a start time not before 12pm each day, sailors can look forward to testing their skills and endurance over a 40-mile clockwise course around the island.
Dinghies, catamarans, and sailboards are all welcome to participate in this prestigious event, known as the longest dinghy and board race in Europe. The race will navigate through tidal sea, river, and estuary areas, offering a unique and exciting experience for competitors.
In addition to the races, there will be 'round-the-cans' handicap racing off the clubhouse, with three races back-to-back from a committee boat. Social gatherings and food options at the clubhouse will add to the camaraderie and excitement of the event.
Registration fees are £50 for pre-entry and £60 for on-the-day registration, with registration taking place inside the clubhouse from 8.00 am on the race day. Briefings will be held at 09.15, and start times will vary depending on the class of boats.
Participants are reminded to ensure their boat's buoyancy arrangements are in top condition and to carry an anchor for emergencies. Safety boats will be available for assistance if needed, ensuring a safe and enjoyable race for all involved.
Trophies such as the Parker Cup, Times & Guardian Cup, Third Overall Cup, and Bartling Line Honours Cup will be up for grabs, adding an extra element of competition and excitement to the event.
