The 2024 Australian Mountain Bike Orienteering Carnival and Championships hosted by Orienteering ACT will be an exciting multi-day event in Canberra from 17 to 20 October 2024. Riders can look forward to various challenges at different locations around the city.
Starting off the carnival on Thursday 17 October, there will be a social warm-up score event at Bruce Ridge, a short ride away from the city centre. It offers a network of fun singletrack in a native eucalyptus forest, perfect for getting into the racing spirit.
On Friday 18 October, the Australian Mass Start Championships will take place at West Stromlo. Set by Cathy Hogg and Belinda Allison, this course promises a thrilling competition just 20 minutes west of central Canberra.
Saturday 19 October will feature two events. The Australian Middle Distance Championships will kick off from Stringybark Hill, offering rocky singletrack in a hilly native forest. Riders can anticipate a challenging course set by Michael Reed, Emily Walter, and Tom Walter. Following this, the Australian Sprint Distance Championships will be held at Sutton Road, offering a mix of grassland, trees, and industrial debris. Cath Chalmers and Eoin Rothery have set the course, promising an exciting ride through off-road tracks.
Wrapping up the championships on Sunday 20 October, the Australian Long Distance Championships will take place at West Kowen and Kowen Homestead. With forestry roads, fire trails, and rough singletrack, this final event set by Fedor Iskhakov and Marina Iskhakova will test riders' endurance and skills.
Participants can register for the event through Eventor, with different entry fees based on the entry period. Juniors under 21 and Masters 75 and above can enjoy discounted rates.
