The Abominable O-Men, an Orienteering club in Canberra, is excited to announce the upcoming 2024 Australian Mountain Bike Orienteering Carnival and Championships. Taking place from 17 to 20 October 2024, this event will feature a series of competitions spread out over different days.
Kicking off the carnival on Thursday 17 October will be a Social Warm-Up SCORE Event at Bruce Ridge starting at 5pm. Located in suburban north Canberra, Bruce Ridge offers a network of exciting singletrack paths through native eucalyptus forest, just a short ride from the city centre.
The action continues on Friday 18 October with the Australian Mass Start Championships at West Stromlo starting from 5pm. Located a quick 20-minute drive west of central Canberra, this event is not to be missed.
Saturday 19 October will see the Australian Middle Distance Championships at Stringybark Hill from 9am to 10am, followed by the Australian Sprint Distance Championships at Sutton Road from 2pm to 3pm. Stringybark Hill, located 25 minutes east of central Canberra, features a brand new map and rugged singletrack trails, while Sutton Road offers a unique landscape dominated by a tarred race circuit and industrial debris.
Wrapping up the carnival on Sunday 20 October is the Australian Long Distance Championships at West Kowen and Kowen Homestead from 9am to 10am. A 30-minute drive east of central Canberra, this area boasts a vast pine plantation with an extensive network of forestry roads and singletrack.
