Western Districts Gymnastics (WDYC) is a non-profit sporting organisation that has been serving Brisbane's North-West suburbs for over 50 years. Established in 1972 and incorporated as Western Districts Youth Club Inc in 1988, WDYC has a proud history of providing inclusive gymnastics programmes catering to a wide range of interests and skill levels. The club is affiliated with Gymnastics Queensland and is governed by a volunteer Management Committee, primarily composed of parents of gymnasts. WDYC welcomes athletes of all levels and abilities, striving to ensure that gymnastics is accessible to all.
WDYC's Coaching team consists of leading gymnastics coaches accredited by Gymnastics Australia. The club's facilities offer the youth of Brisbane's north-western suburbs the opportunity to experience the sport of gymnastics in state-of-the-art facilities. In mid-2020, WDYC opened its second venue located on South Pine Rd, Enoggera. With two venues in the western suburbs, the club provides a wide variety of specialised gymnastics programmes, including KinderGym, Recreational Gymnastics, Recreational Tumbling, Free G, Recreational Acrobatics, competitive Acrobatic Gymnastics, and competitive Women's Gymnastics.
Every week, WDYC serves over 1000 children of all ages, ranging from toddlers to adults, through its doors. The club's programmes emphasise fun, fitness, and the fundamentals of gymnastics. They provide instruction to children aged 12 months and older at every skill level, whether it be competitive, recreational, or skills development.
The club's Management Committee comprises various individuals, including President Brad Tomkinson, Treasurer Brendan Tanwan, Secretary Leighanne Brown, Grants Coordinator Lucy Power, and Events Coordinator (position currently vacant).
WDYC offers a wide range of classes and programmes that cater to all ages and abilities. Classes follow a 10-13 week term, with sessions also running during school holidays. The Nurture Programme, designed for children from walking age to 5 years old, promotes the holistic development of children in a safe, structured, and multisensory environment. The programme focuses on physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development through play in a non-competitive setting.
Parents and caregivers play a crucial role in their child's experience in the Kinder programme, actively participating in the child's fun and growth.
With its long-standing history, dedication to inclusivity, and wide array of programmes, Western Districts Gymnastics is a highly reputable and well-established sports club in Brisbane's North-West suburbs.
