Surf Life Saving Wide Bay Capricorn is a sports club located in Bundaberg, Australia. Established in 1953 as South Barrier Branch and affiliated with Surf Life Saving Queensland and Surf Life Saving Australia, the club consists of eight Surf Life Saving Clubs spanning from Hervey Bay to Yeppoon. With over 2000 volunteer members, Surf Life Saving Wide Bay Capricorn provides surf life-saving advisory, operational, educational, and administrative services to affiliated clubs, local government, emergency services, and the community.
Membership in the club is open to individuals from all walks of life, and there are various ways to contribute without necessarily getting wet. People join for reasons such as being part of the local community, learning new skills, staying fit and active, volunteering as a family, or simply because it's enjoyable. The club is always looking for more volunteers and encourages interested individuals to join and lend a helping hand.
The Surf Life Saving Wide Bay Capricorn website features a Beach Safe app that provides information about patrolled and non-patrolled beaches, ensuring beachgoers are well-informed and safe during their visits. The club's contact information is provided, and there is an option to access the SLS member portal for members.
As part of Surf Life Saving Queensland, Surf Life Saving Wide Bay Capricorn is proud to be involved in keeping the region's beaches safe. With over 700 accessible beaches and thousands of kilometres of coastline on the mainland, teamwork and coordination are essential. The club supports and assists eight affiliated clubs located throughout the region, including Yeppoon Surf Life Saving Club, Emu Park Surf Life Saving Club, and Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club.
Yeppoon Surf Life Saving Club, which has been serving the community for almost 100 years, is known for its innovation, diversity, and commitment to member and swimmer safety. The club started in 1918 as the Yeppoon First Aid and Life Saving Club before officially forming in 1926. It has since evolved into a modern and inclusive club that welcomes members from diverse backgrounds. In recognition of its outstanding work, Yeppoon SLSC was named the Surf Life Saving Queensland JLT Club of the Year 2017–2018.
Emu Park Surf Life Saving Club, located in a picturesque village with pristine beaches, has been operating since 1956. Initially, volunteers would arrive by train as there was no road access. The club opened its first clubhouse in December of that year, marking a significant milestone for the club and the community. Today, members continue to dedicate their time to protect the community and its stunning section of the Capricorn Coast.
Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club, situated in a trusted part of the local area, plays a vital role in beach safety. With their commitment and voluntary efforts, the club ensures the welfare of beachgoers in the region.
