Cricket is at the heart of Nunawading Cricket Club, with a rich history dating back to 1927. Originally known as Tunstall Cricket Club, the club changed its name to Nunawading in 1946. Since then, the club has established itself as a dominant force in the local cricket community.
Located at Mahoneys Rd, Forest Hill, the club is affiliated with the Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association. Nunawading CC has achieved numerous topships across all grades, with the First XI earning a reputation as one of the strongest teams in the competition from 1957-85.
While success on the field is important, Nunawading CC prides itself on nurturing a strong junior programme. With over 150 children of all ages and abilities donning the purple and gold, the club strives to provide a positive and inclusive environment for young cricketers. From developing motor skills in three-year-olds to shaping young men and women who excel in the game, Nunawading CC serves as a guiding force in their cricketing journey.
The club offers a range of programmes for different age groups and skill levels. The Woolworths Junior Blasters programme is designed for young children to develop motor skills and hand-eye coordination in a fun-filled environment. Super 7s and Fast 9s cater to graduates of the Blasters programme, where real games are played on smaller pitches and boundaries.
Nunawading CC also runs a dedicated girls' cricket programme, welcoming girls of all ages and skills. With two teams in place, the programme aims to foster a love for the game, encourage learning, and provide a supportive space for girls to thrive.
For U12-U18 players, the club focuses on equal opportunity, participation, and individual and team development. While team success is valued, the emphasis lies on personal growth and enjoyment of the sport. U16 and U18 players take on games aligned with senior cricket, fostering resilience, humility, and an understanding of team dynamics.
Senior cricket is a significant part of Nunawading CC, with five teams representing the club in the BHRDCA. The First XI competes for the prestigious Peter White Shield in the upcoming 2022-23 season, under the guidance of Club Coach Damien Yze.
Nunawading CC also offers a Ladies Cricket programme, known as Social Sixes. These sessions provide a fun and fitness-based activity with a cricket theme, taking place on Monday nights.
To keep members and supporters informed, the club maintains a blog and newsletter. The blog provides updates on activities around Nunawading, while the newsletter is a monthly publication covering upcoming events, results, and other news.
